The below shows how to fix it and save quite a lot of money on visiting the Renault garages.
My problem was that I could not start the engine. Message on the dashboard shows Select Neutral.
As in 99% of other situations I was sure it was reverse switch. Having learned from previous experience (I tried the generic one which was 1/3 of the price and started to leak after 2 days) I went for new original (with Renault stamps) switch and fitted it in my car.
Same issue...
I checked the switch and it was ok. Apparently the old appears to be ok too.
I was looking for the issue and I found out that the current is not coming to the switch. I was afraid it was the ECU, however I was lucky enough and it was broken wire.
All details are below.
Please note this is regarding 3 pin switch, however the principal is more less the same for the 2 pin one.
Reverse switch has 3 wires:
- yellow - provides the current
- white - ignition lock/ select neutral
-brown - reversing light.
If you broke down on the road and cannot start it you can bridge the yellow and the white and you are ok to go. However it is just temporary solution and needs to be sorted later. You will also loose the reversing light as to bridge the wires you will need to unplug the wires connecting to the switch.
You may also start your car using a wire and connect it to the + on battery and to the solenoid's control circuit, or you can bridge the relay and so on.
Our favorite message on the dashboard ;) Ignition on (press and hold the start button for 3-4 seconds), and gear-stick on neutral

You will need to drain the gearbox oil first as the switch is dipped in it

As I knew it was not the switch I was checking if bridge between two wires would work...
and it did not and it appears there is no current coming to the yellow wire
So I took the current directly from battery
and here we go - SELECT NEUTRAL DISSAPEARED
Now I still was not sure if it is lack of current on the PCB board or the wire has snapped somewhere.
It is a pin number 6 that should have the current and
it has had it.
I also checked the wire between the board and the switch and there was no conductibility.
I bypassed the broken wire and use another wire to get the power to the reverse switch
Once again I tested everything and it was absolutely fine.
