Shock absorbers and coils replacing. Shocks coils Renault Scenic 2, Renault Grand Scenic front

Shocks and coils replacing on the front of Grand Scenic 2
 Remove nuts














 covers,




 and wipers




 use some penetrating liquid like wd40











 Remove wheel




 Clean up (wire brush) all bolts/nuts related to a shock



















My hydraulic car jack failed when pin slided on the side




 and damaged the jack. However I always secure my car by putting wheel under the chassis just





like on this picture. Right, let get back to job...




 remove bolt holding bottom of the shock




 remove 3 bolts holding upper strut mount









 pull down the shock (pull it by coil) and help yourself by pushing disk down with your foot pivot arm

 The worst ever thing I had to deal with. Compressing the coil. It took me about 1.5hr for each coil to compress and decompress, so over 6 hrs to swap the coils. At the end the tread on jaws was totally damaged and jaws landed in bin.



















 It was very late and I did not have any tar (all shops were closed), so I simply heat up some butter in microwave and put it on rubber parts of strut. May sounds funny or stupid however it works ;)




 Of course don't forget to clean it before applying "butter"

 Instruction says that 62Nm has to be used for tightening strut and shock. You will have to use Allan key and right spanner and tighten it as much as you can. Then use just dynamo-metric key at 62Nm torque.

It helps a lot if you have another car jack. I used to lift up entire suspension and to place upper strut in its final position




 21 Nm, yes it is. Just 21 Nm for each bolt holding the strut (I was surprised too)








 Be eco friendly. Washing up liquid or water with soap will wipe the stain from the ground















Because of spillage I had to add some oil to gearbox. It was maybe 70-80ml. Not much. Oil type is 75W80. On picture you can see where is the control/top up cap. It is tight in there. I used a bottle after ketchup, wash it up fill it with oil and topped up missing oil. No special tool needed.








At the very end put back wipers, make sure you adjust them before tightening.

Drive belt aka alternator belt aka v belt aka ribbed drive belt - replacing in Renault Scenic 2, 1.6 16V

Today I will show how to replace drive belt in Grand Scenic fitted with 1.6 16V 113BHP engine
 Remove wheel bolts cover - I use 2eu worth plier instead of original key that costs around 20eu




 Loose bolts then lift up the car



 Remove wheel and secure car by putting it under the chassis (I had bad experience with car jack - take a look on Coil and shocks replacing post)




 You will have to remove mud guard by removing clips...




 ...and bolts.









 Remove 4 bolts that cover belt














 You can easily take off the belt by pulling it just by hands

 In case you don't remember the way the belt goes




 Now. If you have somebody to help you and you have 16 mm (very rare) ring spanner key follow these 3 pictures...









 ...if not look below




 I made a lever using spanner open/box one




...used the another one to lift the first one by supporting it on a ratchet key lying down on an alternator...




 ...the end of it I put under alternator cantilever. I put the belt on and slowly released my lever.




 Make sure you the the right replacement belt
.



 New belt is on




 Now put all back again
